Why Denver Homes Are Different

A century of housing, one mile up

Denver’s neighborhoods each fail differently, and at 5,280 feet indoor air quality carries extra weight. We diagnose by neighborhood era, not by template.

  • Historic bungalows and squares

Capitol Hill, Wash Park, and the older grid: uninsulated brick and frame walls, original wiring, and basements that were never meant to be lived in.

  • Post-war ring neighborhoods

Montbello, Harvey Park, and the mid-century ring: thin attics, aging ducts, and heating systems at end of life, prime heat pump conversion territory.

  • Radon capital conditions

Denver County regularly exceeds the EPA action level, and Colorado law now requires radon education in real estate transactions. We maintain dedicated Denver radon services for exactly this.

  • Electrification momentum

Between building performance policy, Xcel rebates, and the new Power Ahead Colorado heat pump rebate for the metro, the region actively pays residents to electrify. The paperwork is the barrier; we remove it.

Diagnostics

What we commonly find in Denver homes

These are the patterns that show up repeatedly in this housing stock and climate. Your home gets tested, not assumed, but this is where we look first.

Solid masonry with no cavity to fill

Brick bungalows and squares need a different strategy than frame homes, because there is often no stud cavity at all. The work moves to attic, basement, and interior detailing.

Basements converted without air sealing

Finished basements across the city sit directly on the radon pathway, and the finish work usually sealed the symptoms rather than the entry points.

Ducts in unconditioned crawl and attic space

Postwar ring homes commonly run distribution through space that is effectively outdoors, which is why rooms at the end of a run never keep up.

Panels at the electrification ceiling

A century of incremental additions leaves many Denver homes with no headroom for a heat pump plus charging, so the panel becomes the first real project.

Local Rebates

Rebates for Denver addresses

Denver residents still hold a strong rebate hand, it just changed shape. The city’s CARe rebates ran out of 2025 funding in March 2025 and have not reopened. In their place, Power Ahead Colorado, run by the Denver Regional Council of Governments, pays $1,500 toward a cold-climate heat pump anywhere in the metro with no income limit, stacking with Xcel Energy rebates on audits, insulation, air sealing, and HVAC.

Add Colorado heat pump incentives on top, up to $3,500 combined on qualifying installs, and many Denver electrification projects end up dramatically cheaper than their sticker price. We build and file the full stack.

FAQs

Denver questions, answered

Do you have Denver-specific radon services?

Yes, dedicated pages and dedicated crews: radon mitigation in Denver, radon testing in Denver, and crawl space encapsulation in Denver, designed around the city’s neighborhoods and foundation types.

Is the Denver CARE program still available?

Not right now. Denver allocated all of its 2025 CARe funding by March 2025 and has not announced new funds. The active program for the metro is Power Ahead Colorado, $1,500 off a cold-climate heat pump for projects completed June 29, 2026 or later. Combined with Xcel and state incentives it is still a strong stack, and we file all of it.

Can old Denver brick homes actually be insulated?

Yes, with the right techniques: dense-pack for frame walls, careful interior strategies for solid brick, and attic and basement work that respects how these homes breathe.

Which Denver neighborhoods do you cover?

The whole city and inner metro: Capitol Hill, Wash Park, Montbello, Harvey Park, Park Hill, and the surrounding first-ring suburbs.

Is radon really required in Denver home sales?

Colorado law now mandates radon education in real estate transactions, and most Denver deals involve testing. We handle deadline testing and one-day mitigation installs for exactly these situations.
