Insulation & Air Sealing in
Frederick
Frederick anchors the Carbon Valley, the stretch of I-25 between Longmont and the metro where the town says hundreds of new homes go up every year, more than Longmont, Firestone, and Dacono combined. The median Frederick home was built in 2008, which puts most of the housing in the one era that looks finished and leaks anyway.

Why Frederick Homes Are Different
Carbon Valley homes: new, fast, and leakier than they look
Frederick was a coal town, incorporated in 1907 and named by three daughters for their father, Frederick A. Clark, and the Frederick Mine ran until 1960. Almost none of that housing remains in the mix; the town today is subdivisions from the 2000s onward, built quickly on open plains.
2000s production homes
Code-minimum attic insulation, recessed lights that vent straight into the attic, and rim joists that were never sealed. Air sealing plus a top-up is the highest-return project in these homes.
Open plains wind
With nothing between the Carbon Valley and the foothills winds, the west face of a house is pressurized all winter. Leaks a sheltered lot would hide show up here as cold rooms and a furnace that runs all night.
Two-story plans with bonus rooms
Rooms over garages and cantilevered floors are standard in Wyndham Hill, Raspberry Hill, and Fox Run plans, and they are the rooms that get the complaints. The fix is the floor cavity, not the thermostat.
Weld County radon
Weld County reports that roughly half of the 10,000-plus homes tested over twenty years showed elevated radon. A new slab home is as likely to test high as an old basement.

Diagnostics
What we commonly find in Frederick homes
These are the patterns that show up repeatedly in this housing stock and climate. Your home gets tested, not assumed, but this is where we look first.
Recessed lights venting into the attic
Older can lights in 2000s ceilings are open to the attic and pull conditioned air out all day. Sealing or replacing them is cheap and measurable.
Top plates nobody sealed
The gap where drywall meets the top of every interior wall runs the length of the house. It is the biggest leak in most Carbon Valley attics and it takes a day to seal.
Half-insulated bonus-room floors
The floor over the garage was insulated with batts that sag away from the subfloor, leaving an air gap that makes the room cold regardless of what the furnace does.
Attic depth at the 2006 minimum
What was code in 2006 is well short of what the climate and current guidance call for, and settling has taken it lower.

Local Rebates
Rebates for Frederick addresses
Frederick, Firestone, and Dacono are all United Power electric and Black Hills Energy gas, which puts them outside Xcel’s programs. United Power’s 2026 rebates cover heat pumps: $500 to $1,000 for a ducted system and $250 to $500 for a mini-split, on retrofits, applied for within 90 days of installation. It does not offer an insulation, air sealing, or audit rebate, so in the Carbon Valley the envelope work pays for itself on the bills, which it does quickly in these homes.
We confirm what Black Hills offers for your address at quote time rather than guessing. Income-qualified households can get free air sealing and insulation through Weld County’s Energy Resource Center. Power Ahead Colorado’s $1,500 heat pump rebate applies inside town limits but only through contractors the program has verified, and PowerHouse is not on that list today.

Frederick questions, answered
Do you cover Firestone and Dacono too?
Yes. The three Carbon Valley towns share the same utilities, the same housing era, and the same crews from us. If you are in Firestone or Dacono, everything on this page applies to you.
Are there insulation rebates for United Power customers?
Not from United Power; its 2026 residential rebates are for heat pumps. The case for insulation and air sealing here is the energy bill itself, and the audit puts a number on it before you spend anything.
My house was built in 2006. Why is the upstairs so cold?
Mid-2000s builds in the Carbon Valley commonly have attic insulation at the code minimum of the day, unsealed top plates, and a bonus room over the garage with a half-insulated floor. A blower door and a thermal camera find it in an hour.
Is radon really a problem in a new house?
Yes. Radon comes from the soil, not the age of the house, and Weld County’s testing shows about half of homes elevated. A tight new home can concentrate it. Test first; mitigation is reliable.
Do you do heat pumps out here?
Yes, and United Power’s rebate helps: up to $1,000 on a ducted cold-climate heat pump. We size it after the envelope work so you buy a smaller unit that runs less.

Firestone, CO
United Power electric and Black Hills gas, same as Frederick. The town grew from 1,908 people in 2000 to 10,147 in 2010, so most Firestone homes are from the same production era we see across the Carbon Valley.
Dacono, CO
United Power electric and Black Hills gas. Dacono shares Frederick’s utilities, rebate picture, and housing era, and the same crews cover it.
